Wow, hard to believe that another year has gone by and that we found ourselves back out in the desert near Palm Springs for the annual La Quinta Art Show. We stayed in a great RV park out at Lake Cahuilla, only about 10 minutes away from the art show!Yes, a weird picture of me but it was almost 90 degrees out there! The primary reason for going back out to the show again was that my oldest friend, Deb’s, husband, Red, is in the show and we love seeing them and hanging with them during the four days. We even help out a little too!
These are some pics of Red’s work. He uses light weight aluminum which he grinds, paints and coats with layers of film and epoxy. Red did great at the show and thanked us for being his lucky charms! Here are some very discerning buyers!I always love strolling around this venue because it is so beautiful and the weather truly was perfect this weekend. It is fun to see what other artists are up to and I always like seeing their booth design. There were some gorgeous paintings depicting the beauty of this desert landscape.I ran into a few favorite artists, one in particular is the very talented Armando Lopez. He does both amazing paintings and sculpture. His style is magic realism (i think!) and I love the Mexican folk art influences. Another artist whose work I collected a long time ago is ceramic artist, Paula Rempalski. It was fun seeing her larger, figurative pieces because I have only seen some of her smaller, more functional work. I do like sharing art here on my blog because I find it so inspiring and hope that you do too! This was a fellow who was new to the show and I loved his work. He did huge paintings of coy fish and added beautiful Japanese papers into them like a collage. He also did some really ultra modern pieces like this bunny below.Years ago in Laguna Beach we purchased a vase by ceramic artist, Fred Stoddard. Over the years his style really changed and he now does some of the coolest, most contemporary ceramic vessels. (I wish we had one of these instead of the one we bought over 20 years ago!)lolHere are a few random shots from the show.It was a great weekend with great friends, food and great art, what’s better?
